Young Londoners can gain FREE leadership advice and inspiration from some of our community’s top leaders!

London Mayor Ed Holder, London Police Chief Steve Williams, Western President Alan Shepard, Fanshawe President Peter Devlin, TVDSB Director of Education Mark Fisher, LDCSB Director of Education Linda Staudt, MP Kate Young, MP Lindsay Mathyssen, MP Peter Fragiskatos, MP Karen Vecchio, and SelectPath CEO and President Gordon Hart, have all created videos that are part of Investing in Children’s Kids Power Conference. The videos speak to the participants about leadership and offer them inspiration and advice on the nurturing and honing of leadership skills.

Investing in Children has hosted the Kids Power Conference for the past 15 years. In the past, it has been held in the form of a one-day conference at the Central Branch of the London Public Library and has brought together 100 grade 6 and 7 students from both London school boards .

This year, due to the pandemic, Investing in Children’s Kids Power Conference is adopting a new approach that will serve more than just the usual 100 participants!

Instead of a conference, a leadership course has been created that kids can study through Investing in Children’s website at no cost . There will be videos to watch, articles to read and podcasts to listen to all aimed at inspiring and nurturing leadership skills. At the end of the course, there will be a reflective and short answer assessment. Upon submission of the completed assignment, the students will be awarded a certificate.

This year, Investing in Children has designed this free conference to be appropriate for all London and area youth from grade 6 and up. The advantage of pivoting to a virtual format allows Investing in Children to deliver this wonderful program to unlimited numbers of youth in London and the area!

“It is truly inspiring to see the support we received from our local leaders. I was thrilled when so many were willing to take time out of their incredibly busy schedules to help inspire local youth. That in itself illustrates what great leaders we have here in London!” said Sarah Finch Investing in Children’s Communications Manager and organizer of the Kids Power Conference. “Kids can always benefit from encouragement, but right now during these unusual times, it seems even more important!” said Finch.

The online course will remain on Investing in Children’s website www.investinginchildren.on.ca until the end of the school year.
